Difference Between Science and Philosophy

Science vs Philosophy
The distinction between philosophy and science is very slim, but there are distinctions nonetheless. Many people assume that science and philosophy are contradictory concepts to each other, but both subjects share a more positive relationship rather than an animosity.

Science can be defined as a study and understanding of natural phenomena. It is concerned with empirical data, meaning data that can be observed, tested, and repeated. It is systematic in nature, and there is a specific course of action used called the scientific method. Science bases its explanation on the results of experiments, objective evidence, and observable facts.

Science came from the Latin word “scientia,” meaning “knowledge.”There are many branches or fields of science. These branches can be classified under various headings: pure and applied sciences, physical and life sciences, Earth and space sciences. Also included in these classifications are exact and descriptive science.

Science started out as a part of philosophy. It was then called natural philosophy, but science emerged and deviated from philosophy in the 17th century as a separate study or domain.Science involves objective types of questions. As a study, it tries to find answers and prove them to be objective fact or truth. In its method, the experiment creates certain hypotheses which can be proven or validated as fact. In the same manner, hypotheses can also be wrong or falsified. By observing and undertaking the experiment, science produces knowledge by observation. Science’s main purpose is to extract the objective truth out of existing or naturally occurring ideas.

Science’s “predecessor,” philosophy, is a more difficult concept to define. It is broadly defined as an activity that uses reason to explore issues in many areas. Its application to many different fields makes it impossible to have a definite and concrete definition.

Philosophy tries to study and understand the fundamental nature of two things: the existence of man and the relationship between the man and existence. It also has branches: metaphysics, logic, politics, epistemology, ethics, aesthetics, and specific philosophy in the fields like the philosophy of language, history, the mind, religion, and others. Philosophy comes from the Greek word “philosophia” which translates as “love of wisdom.”

Philosophy is based on reason. Its methods use logical argumentation. Philosophy uses arguments of principles as basis for its explanation.Philosophy entertains both subjective and objective type of questions. It means that aside from finding answers, it also resolves to generate questions. It raises question and processes before finding out the answers. . Philosophy is mostly involved with thinking and to create knowledge.

Summary:
1.Philosophy and science are two studies and domains. Philosophy came first and became the basis for science, formerly known as natural philosophy. Both studies have many branches or fields of study and makes use reasoning, questioning and analysis. The main difference is how they work and treat knowledge.

2.Science is concerned with the natural phenomena while philosophy attempts to understand the nature of man, existence and the relationship that exists between the two concepts.

3.Science came from a Latin word (scientia), meanwhile, philosophy traces back to a Greek word (philosophia).

4.Another common element between the two studies is that they try to explain situations and find answers. Philosophy does this by using logical argumentation while science uses empirical data. Philosophy’s explanations are grounded in arguments of principles while science tries to explain from experiment results, observable facts and objective evidence.

5.Science is used for instances that require empirical validation while philosophy is used for situations where measurements and observations cannot be applied. Science also takes answers and proves them as objective right or wrong.

6.Subjective and objective questions are involved in philosophy while only some of objective questions can be related in science. Philosophy also involves generating questions aside from finding answers. Meanwhile, while science is only involved in the latter activity.

7.Philosophy creates knowledge by thinking. On the other hand, science does the same thing by observing.

8.Science is also a defined study, in contrast to philosophy which can be applied to many and extensive areas of discipline.

Difference between MSc and M.P.H.

There are a lot of professional degrees that people study for these days. With the growth of meritocracy, diversity of people’s passion and goals in life as well as the competition among top class universities, many new degrees, at the bachelors, masters as well as doctorate levels have been introduced. Moreover, people do not always do their post graduate studies in the same subject or filed as their bachelors. Organizations and firms prefer people these days who have expertise in two or more disciples and can link up their knowledge in the two or more fields for the benefit of their employers. Therefore, many subjects and disciples have sprung up at almost all levels of education.

When we use the abbreviation MSc, which is short for Master of Science (also sometimes referred to as just MS), we actually mean a degree that is a postgraduate academic one. When a person enrolls into a university after college, he or she starts a bachelor or an under graduate degree. Once that is done, if the student wishes to pursue their studies, what they apply for is a master’s degree or a post graduate degree. This is what MSc refers to. It is an umbrella term that incorporates all the masters’ degrees that are given in the world with some exceptions. In some countries however, MSc is used for a masters’ degree that is in any science subject such as medicine or engineering. Consequently, all other masters’ degrees come under the abbreviation MS or master of studies.

When we talk about the abbreviation MPH, which is short for Master of Public Health, we actually refer to a professional degree that is multi-disciplinary, that is, covers multiple fields or subjects, as long as they are under or linked to the area of public health. The main focus of a MPH degree is public health practice and not teaching or research. There are many MPH programs that are available all over the world. These include programs in Public Health, Schools of Public Health, Medical Schools and Schools of Public Affairs. It must be pointed out that in some exceptional countries, the MPH program is only available for physician graduates, that is, medical doctors (MBBS), MD(s) or other personnel who have professional degrees equivalent to these. In these countries, people who do not have a medical degree can continue Public Health studies by taking up either MSPH, which is Master of Science in Public Health or MMSPH, which is Master of Medical Science in Public Health program.

Keeping in view the information and details of the two provided, a simple conclusion can be drawn that MSc and MPH have a huge difference. The first one refers to a post graduate degree, or a degree that is done after a bachelor degree. MSc can be in any field or area of study that you choose, and if you ignore the branch of programs classified under MS in some countries, MSc would include almost all degrees given at the post graduate level. In contrast to this, MPH is one of these post graduate degrees that is solely based on studies in the area of Public Health as well as some related disciples. This implies that MSc is a general term that includes MPH although the converse is not true. All people who have a MPH degree can also say that they have an MSc degree. However, all people who have an MSc degree cannot say that they have an MPH degree as their field of study can be any in addition to public health.

Summary of differences expressed in points
1. the abbreviation MSc, which is short for Master of Science (also sometimes referred to as just MS) means the degree that is a postgraduate academic one, an umbrella term that incorporates all the masters’ degrees that are given in the world with some exceptions. In some countries however, MSc is used for a masters’ degree that is in any science subject such as medicine or engineering; the abbreviation MPH, which is short for the Master of Public Health actually refers to a professional degree that is multi-disciplinary, that is, covers multiple fields or subjects, as long as they are under or linked to the area of public health

2. MSc includes almost all degrees given at the post graduate level. In contrast to this, MPH is one of these post graduate degrees that is solely based on studies in the area of Public Health.

Difference Between Affective and Effective

Affective vs Effective
Whenever we write compositions or papers, as part of our assignments in school, one of the things that we are graded upon is our choice of words. Not only should the words we choose be right for the written assignment, but the words should also be used correctly. The words affective and effective are two words that have often been used incorrectly. Although they do sound almost the same, and are very close in spelling, save for the starting letter of each word, these two words depict two distinct meanings that are as different as oil and water. This is a guide that will help you understand the difference between these two words, to make sure that you are able to use these two words correctly in your next school paper.

The root word of the term ‘affective’ is the word ‘affect’. This word is commonly used as a verb, which means ‘to influence or to act in a certain way’. As such, to affect something means to influence or alter the mental state of a certain individual, in order for them to feel or act in a certain way. To be considered as an affective individual, means that you are able to influence another person, or a group of people, in order for them to feel, think or act in the manner that you would want them to act. Being affective is, therefore, one of the most important characteristics that sales people and marketers should possess.

On the other hand, the term ‘effective’ comes from the root word ‘effect’. In contrast to the word affect, the word effect is used both as a noun and verb. As a noun, the word effect generally means ‘the result of something’. For something to be an effect, something else should have happened first.

The word ‘effective’ derives its meaning from the word effect when it is used as a verb. As a verb, the word effect means ‘the ability to produce a desired result’. This meaning is where much of the confusion comes from, when using the words affective and effective. Even here there is a difference. Being an affective person means that you have the ability to influence another person’s feelings, and way of thinking, for them to act and feel a certain way. On the other hand, an effective person entails being able to produce results, without first influencing another person’s emotions, in order to produce the desired result. Therefore, you can be an affective speaker and an effective computer programmer.

Summary:
1. Affective and effective are words that generally refer to the ability to produce results.

2. Affective comes from the root word affect, which is commonly used as a verb. On the other hand, the word effective comes from the root word effect, which is used both as a noun and as a verb.

3. An affective person has the ability to influence a person, or a group of people, in the way they think, feel and act. An effective person has the ability to produce results without having the need to first influence another person.

Difference Between Education and Experience

Education vs. Experience
One can easily tell the difference between education and experience. As what is commonly observed in employment applications, employers either look for a prospect employee that has the best education, or the most experience. Often it is the case that they look for both.

Basically, the main separating factor between the two, is the source of knowledge. In regards to education, you will attain knowledge preferably from fine print materials, such as the theory learned through textbooks and the like. Hence, it is what you generally learn at school, knowing that schools primarily employ the book-based system of learning. On the contrary, experience offers knowledge based on any other aspect, other than the sources just mentioned. It is a very broad concept that consists of both knowledge and skills.

Education, in general, is a bigger concept, for it also includes experiences. It is a summation of all processes, of which humans hand over the theory learned from one generation, to the next. Education obtained in schools is specifically termed as schooling. Learning various subjects can help develop effective mental learning in students.

You can gain experience by being involved in a certain endeavor, like doing on-the-job trainings, and also by being exposed to related events, like the way you learn the lifestyle of a native tribe by living with them. Having been exposed to various set-ups, a person with great experience can be regarded as an expert of that field, or set-up. That’s why many scientists and philosophers alike, hail experience as the father of all education. It derives knowledge from empirical data. It is something that you can get from using your senses. Hence, the knowledge obtained by experience is accepted as empirical knowledge, although, education also utilizes different teaching modalities that use the senses (auditory learning, visual learning, etc).

There are various forms of experiences, which include mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and many others. Conversely, education can be divided into stages of primary, secondary and tertiary, or higher education (non compulsory).

1. Education, in general, is a bigger concept compared to experience.

2. Education is best exemplified in learning from books, while experience is on-the-job trainings

3. The source of knowledge for education is in printed materials, whereas, with experience, the knowledge is gained either through involvement or exposure.

4. A person with great experience is called an expert, while a person with great education, is not always immediately regarded as an expert in his or her field.
