Difference Between Severity and Priority

Severity vs Priority

We all know that bugs exist in real life and in virtual life as well. In the virtual world, we have bugs that have very few solutions. Either the person who made the program or command line that is creating the bug can eradicate this problem, or we have to get to another tool of creating items which can fix the problems. Here we are going to discuss some information regarding a bug’s severity and priority in a program’s command line or manual, physical bugs in any field.

Severity

Literally speaking, if a bug is severe, we have a problem. “Severity” may be considered as “the measure of how much the bug is problematic” or “the degree of harm that a bug may cause.” In short, if the bug is very severe, it is causing greater problems in the program.

Severity is always considered in accordance with the testers of that specific application. Testers are always in search of a new bug every time they compile the program so that no end user gets any problems regarding the product. If a user gets the product with severe bugs (that is the bugs with high priority in lags or GUID problems, etc.), he might criticize the company and will not buy any future products which will finally cause a big loss to the company.

The severity of any bug may be categorized as showstopper, major defect, minor defect, and cosmetic in the descending order. The most severe in here is labeled as a showstopper while the least severe is tagged as cosmetic, more to do with the look and feel of the program. Severity is related with the technical aspect of any program.

Priority

“Priority” means “how fast or how perfectly the bug is eradicated.” If a program has a bug, the priority will be removing this bug as soon as possible. Bug detection is done by the testers which, after detecting the bug, send it back to the developer so that the bug can be removed as soon as possible. In virtual programs, a company might also develop a beta testing version available free to users so that the users can directly report the bug missed by the testers to solve the problem for the original package in the future. The priority of the defect is then decided by the program manager or the project leader.

In short, “priority” is the assessment of how harmful the bug is and how important it is to fix. It should be fixed on the basis of the importance of the requirement. “Priority” is governed by the marketing aspect of the program.

1.“Severity” is the measurement of the problems in a bug whereas “priority” is how fast the bug is solved.
2.“Severity” is with the consideration of the tester while “priority” is applied to the main user’s accordance.
3.“Severity” is related with the technical aspect of a program while “priority” is related to the financial aspect.
4.“Priority” is related with the schedule while “severity” is associated with the standards of the program.

Difference Between Micro and Macro

Micro vs Macro
The basic differences between “micro” and “macro” is that macro is on a large scale and cannot be observed while micro is on a very small scale and can be observed or identified.

There are many macro and micro systems which have their own definitions, explanations, and differences. For example, the differences between micro and macroeconomics, the differences between micro and macrolenses, the differences between macro and microevolution, the differences between micro and macroanalysis, and the differences between micro and macroinfluences, microclimate and macroclimate. The list goes on, but all these fields or areas have some basic similarities in reference to “micro” and “macro.”

We will try to differentiate between “micro” and “macro” on the basis of different examples from different fields.

Economics
In economics, the whole field has been divided into two; macro and microeconomics. “Micro” deals with a particular industry or particular sector, the relationships of firms and households within the market whereas “macro” deals with economics which is related to the nation as a whole on a large scale like the gross production in a year.
Microeconomics is called price theory as it basically focuses on the prices of goods and services whereas macroeconomics focuses on the economy of the nation. This includes gross productivity, unemployment rate, inflation, etc.

Evolution
Macro and microevolution are studied separately. Microevolution is believed to be evolution within a species and its gene pool. It is considered to be contained to a small part of nature, i.e., the gene pool of a specific species, the variations occurring within a small portion. For example, one litter of a dog having pups of different shades. A black-and-white dog has pups which are black and white. Some have predominant white and less black. Or the same parents having one child with brown hair, black eyes and the other with black hair, brown eyes.

However, macroevolution is something huge like evolution of life from water, evolution of birds from dinosaurs, or evolution of feathers. Another example is the evolution of the horse (Equidae) from dog-like creatures. These creatures were herbivores, and once their habitat changed into grassy pastures, they needed to graze faster and cover more ground faster. Thus the legs got elongated and toes reduced. These changes were abrupt and not observed by anyone.
Similarly, there are many systems whose examples we can give, but the main difference being the difference in their proportion.

Summary:
1.The basic difference between “macro” and “micro” is micro is variations, relationships, or characteristics at a smaller scale or proportion whereas “macro” is a variation or relationship or characteristics of a larger proportion or scale.
2.Microvariations can be observed, macrovariations are huge and cannot be observed at all levels. They are felt once they are there.

Difference Between Hypothesis and Theory

Beyond that their significance is important and descriptive of the approach that is central to the scientific process. These two terms are originated in the same time frame and much of the derivation is the same as well citing Greek as one of the most recent sources.

The term hypothesis is used to refer to an explanation of things that occur. In some cases, it may refer to a simple guess. In other instances it may be a well-developed set of propositions that are crafted to explain the detailed workings of some occurrence or occurrences. One definition states specifically that it is the antecedent to a conditional proposition.

The hypothesis is formed and tested within the scientific process . One may develop the hypothesis while observation is occurring, but that may also be considered premature. The act of observation (outside of experimentation) may actually present opportunity to disprove a hypothesis. The hypothesis though is necessarily well defined and inclusive of details. This allows for accurate testing. It also in many cases distinguishes it from a theory.

The term theory is one of a rather scientific nature, but of a less limited nature. Some uses can refer to explanations of occurrences; some do include usage as referencing a simple guess. There is more though. Theory is used to refer to a branch of study that is focused on the general and conceptual, as compared to the practical and the applied of the same subject. It is significant that a theory is conjectural in nature.

Within the scientific process, the use of a theory is like a working model or understanding of what is occurring. The theory is often developed in the course of observation (in a non-experiment setting). Though, it is further developed by experimenting and the testing of hypotheses, a theory is only a theory. By its existence it maintains its validity. Once a theory is disproved, it is usually dismissed.

An illustration of sorts: If one watches water fall from a table after being spilled, one might develop the theory that water moves toward the floor. Then a hypothesis may be developed that states, water will move toward the flooring regardless of its direction relative to the table. Then testing of the hypothesis might include holding samples of the flooring in numerous directions relatively to the table and then releasing the same amount of water with the same vector on the table. If the water does not move upward from the edge of the table toward the flooring above the table, the hypothesis is incorrect and must be replaced.

Those are the major distinctions of theory and hypothesis and their similarities.

Difference Between Heart Attack and Stroke

Both heart attacks and strokes are life and death situations that can cause hospitalization or even death. However, some people confuse the meanings of the terms. Though heart attacks and strokes may arise from the same lifestyle factors, there are fundamental differences between them.

A Heart Attack occurs when blood supply is cut off to a portion of the heart muscles. This may happen due to a clot in one of the arteries that supply the heart with blood. When   blood flow to the heart is obstructed the symptoms of the heart attack are felt by the patient. These may include chest pain, breathlessness etc.

A stroke is a similar thing that happens to a brain. When the supply of blood to the brain stops because of a clot in one of the arteries, it is called a stroke. Unlike a heart attack, in a stroke there is usually no pain. The typical symptoms include a loss in feelings and difficulties in movement. The important thing to understand is that a heart attack takes place in the heart, while a stroke takes place in the brain. A person shows different symptoms for the conditions. Let’s take a look at the typical symptoms that may indicate a heart attack:

Most heart attacks are not the sort you will find in movies. Most start off with a mild pain and tightness in the chest. In fact, the symptoms may be so negligible that a person might be tempted to ignore them altogether. If you feel a discomfort in the middle of the chest, breathlessness or a feeling of being squeezed, get a doctor immediately. While it is possible that your symptoms may not be those of a heart attack, you do not want to lose time in case they are.
You should also be careful if you feel dizzy, experience discomfort around your jaws, arms or shoulders. Other symptoms of a heart attack may include breaking out in a cold sweat, lightheadedness or nausea.

If a patient displays any of the following symptoms, he may be having a stroke:

  • A sudden weakness or numbness in the face arms or legs, particularly those concentrated on a                specific side of the body.
  • Sudden confusion or a difficulty to understand or speak.
  • A sudden inability to see in one or both eyes.
  • A sudden trouble in doing any one of these- walking, maintaining balance or coordinating movements.
  • A sudden and severe headache without a known reason.


Though the conditions are different, they may share common lifestyle factors which cause them in the first place .If you are overweight, a smoker or lack adequate exercise, suffer from high blood pressure and stress, you are more prone to having these life threatening conditions.

In both these cases, it is very important for you to get medical attention as fast as possible. How fast you get aid will determine the extent of the damage and your chances of recovery.
